PWA ANSI Self Priming Process Pumps Information
| Features & Benefits | |||||||||||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1. Integrated Priming TechnologyUnlike standard centrifugal pumps that require a foot valve or an external vacuum system to prime, the PWA-LF is an "all-in-one" solution. Built-in Chamber: The casing features a large, single-component priming and air removal chamber.Automatic Air Removal: It automatically evacuates air from the suction line by mixing it with the liquid in the casing, then separating and venting it through the discharge. No "Add-ons" Required: Customers save money and space because they don't need air separators, check valves, or external priming devices. 2. Superior Lift & PerformanceWhen sizing a PWA-SP, customers need to focus on two critical technical limits: Static Lift: The PWA-SP is capable of an effective static lift of up to 20 feet.Operating Range: It can handle capacities up to 1,250 GPM and heads up to 430 feet. Intermittent Flow: It is ideal for sumps or tanks where the liquid level fluctuates, as the pump will automatically re-prime itself as soon as the suction line is submerged again. 3. The "Standard" PumpWorks UpgradesEven though this is a specialized "Self-Primer," it still includes the premium PumpWorks standard features that competitors charge extra for: Carbon Steel Construction: The casing is made of high-strength ASTM A216 Carbon Steel, which is much more resistant to rupture in freezing temperatures (due to retained priming fluid) than standard ductile iron.Shaft Quality: An upgraded 316L Stainless Steel shaft is standard, preventing the corrosion issues common with 4140 steel. Warranty: Every PWA-SP comes with the industry-leading 5-Year Unconditional Power Frame Warranty. 4. Crucial Installation & Operation TipsCustomers often make two common mistakes with self-primers. They should be aware of these before the first start-up: "Dry" Start-Up Warning: A self-priming pump is not a dry-running pump. You must manually fill the pump casing with liquid once through the fill plug before the very first start. The pump then retains that liquid for all future "self-primes."Suction Line Integrity: Because the pump creates a vacuum to lift liquid, the suction line must be 100% airtight. Even a tiny pinhole leak in the piping will prevent the pump from ever reaching its prime. Draining in Winter: Since the casing is designed to hold liquid to remain primed, it must be drained in freezing weather if not in use, or the expanding ice will crack even a steel casing. 5. Shared ANSI FlexibilityThe PWA-SP is designed to ANSI B73.1 dimensions. Interchangeability: The "Power End" (bearings and shaft) is the same as the standard PWA. This means plants can share spare parts across both their standard and self-priming pump fleets, reducing inventory costs.
