Features & Benefits
The XP‑KZN Series is designed for handling abrasive solids and slurry in hazardous environments where both explosion protection and durability are required. The combination of a high‑chrome agitator and hardened construction enables the pump to continuously suspend and transport solids, reducing clogging and wear while maintaining consistent performance.
Construction and Materials
The XP‑KZN Series is built using heavy-duty materials to withstand abrasive conditions. The pump volute is constructed from hardened ductile iron with high wear resistance, while critical wear components such as the impeller, agitator, and wear plate are made from high‑chrome iron. Stainless steel hardware and durable elastomers are used throughout, with a cast iron motor housing providing structural strength and protection.
Hydraulic and Pump Design
The XP‑KZN Series uses a slurry-style hydraulic design featuring a semi-open impeller combined with an integrated agitator. This system keeps solids suspended in the liquid, allowing continuous movement of abrasive materials. The pump is capable of handling solids up to approximately 1 inch, depending on the model.
Performance varies by model, with the XP‑KZN37 providing moderate flow and head, while the XP‑KZN55 and XP‑KZN75 deliver higher flow capacities up to approximately 569–625 GPM. The XP‑KZN55CH variant provides higher head performance for applications requiring additional pressure.
Motor and Operational Design
The XP‑KZN Series is equipped with an FM‑approved explosion‑proof motor suitable for Class I, Division 1, Groups C and D hazardous environments. The motor operates at approximately 1750 RPM using a 4‑pole configuration to deliver higher torque for slurry handling. It is designed for continuous duty and uses Class H insulation for high temperature resistance.
The motor is cooled by the pumped liquid, improving heat dissipation during operation and allowing reliable performance under load.
Sealing and Protection Systems
The XP‑KZN Series uses dual mechanical seals constructed from silicon carbide materials, operating within an oil-filled chamber to ensure long life in abrasive conditions. A Seal Minder® system is included to monitor moisture within the seal chamber and provide early warning of potential seal failure.
Thermal sensors embedded in the motor windings provide automatic protection against overheating, shutting down the pump if temperature limits are exceeded.
