    101M Series

These pump housings and mounting brackets are made from cast aluminum or bronze alloy. The rotor is made from stainless steel with a hard chrome plate for improved wear properties. The stator is made from molded Nitrile. The mechanical seal is a carbon and ceramic mechanical rotary face type for positive sealing.

The turning of the helical shaped rotor within the stationary stator creates a progressing cavity similar to a moving piston. Liquid is thus displaced generating a pumping action. Unlike piston pumping, extremely high pressure cannot be created because the stator is made of Nitrile and is flexible. Because of this flexibility contaminated liquids can be handled. High starting torque motors are recommended in order to overcome the high starting friction of the stator. The pump is relatively quiet.

This close-coupled pump uses a standard NEMA C-Flange Jet Pump Motor with weld-on base and threaded shaft end to accept the pump impeller. Single phase motors are non-reversible and are wired for the proper pump rotation which is counter-clockwise looking at inlet end of pump. See the dimensional drawing. Three phase motors must be checked out for proper rotation when pump is installed. Interchanging of any 2 wires in a 3-phase system will reverse motor rotation.

The pump uses a mechanical type shaft seal with a Nitrile rubber element. It is limited to 212o F. Fluoroelastomer seals and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) seals are available for severe solvents, difficult chemicals, and elevated temperatures.

    109MB Series

Oberdorfer™ centrifugal pumps have a single rotating metal impeller. Liquid enters at the center and is thrown outward radially by centrifugal force. The impeller is not in contact with other pump parts resulting in quiet, efficient, pumping action. The flow produced is not positive which permits the discharge line to be shut off completely without danger of overloading motors or bursting lines. Consequently a relief valve is not required. The liquid flow varies directly as the pump speed—the higher the speed the greater the flow. Horsepower required varies directly as flow and pressure. Maximum horsepower is required with a wide open discharge line. This is the point of maximum flow. With a throttled discharge, the flow decreases at a greater rate than the pressure increases thereby requiring less horsepower at the higher pressures. This is known as an “unloading” feature of the pump.

This pump is supplied close coupled to gasoline engine or as a pump alone complete with attaching parts and instructions for mounting. Any 2 or 4 cycle gasoline engine having a standard S.A.E. 4 bolt mounting flange and 5/8 inch shaft diameter with key slot can be used. An engine rating of at least 2.2 horsepower at 3600 R.P.M. is necessary as only about one-half of rated power is available at the recommended pump speed of 2100 R.P.M. Larger horsepower engines (3 H.P. at 3600 R.P.M.) with 5/8 inch shaft diameter and suitable flange mounting provide extra power to compensate for power losses due to carbon deposits and gumming.

These Rubber Impeller pumps are made of high quality bronze of maximum corrosion resistance. All shafts consist of stainless steel grade 303. Top of the line models have ball bearings and mechanical seals while others have bronze or carbon bearings and lip type seals. Impellers are made of Neoprene Rubber. Nitrile impellers are available as an option. Flexible blades on the periphery of the impeller provide the pumping action. While the impeller rotates the liquid between the blades is continuously squeezed out into the discharge port by a machined in cam located inside the pump chamber.

To maintain the pump longer, the impeller must be replaced if it is worn out or has been damaged by debris or by running the pump dry. Symptoms of a defective impeller are low pumping pressure and low flow. To replace the impeller remove screws and cover. Pull out the impeller with needle nose pliers or two screwdrivers. Be careful not to dent the pumping chamber with these tools. When inserting new impeller, line up the flat in impeller with the flat in the shaft. Use oil on shaft and avoid forcing the impeller onto the shaft. The impeller should also be removed for storage periods to prevent the blades from taking a permanent set. DO NOT RUN DRY - Rubber impellers generate high rubbing friction unless lubricated by the liquid being pumped. Lack of liquid will cause impeller to burn up.

This all bronze rubber impeller pump is used for sewage transfer from toilets to holding tanks and for pump-out and disposal from holding tanks. It’s solid, corrosive resistant design can handle sewage, waste, toilet paper, cigarettes, cigars, and all solids maceration of approximately 1 inch size. Macerator WILL NOT handle fruit pits, hard plastic utensils, prophylactics, cloth or sanitary napkins.

For optimal performance the impeller and seal must be replaced using these guidelines:

The impeller must be replaced if it is worn out or has been damaged by debris or by running the pump dry. Symptoms of a defective impeller are low pumping pressure and low flow. To replace the impeller, remove screws and cover. Remove macerator wheel, plate and gaskets. Pull out the impeller with needle nose pliers or two screwdrivers. Be careful not to dent the pumping chamber with these tools. When inserting new impeller, line up flat on impeller with flat on the shaft. Use oil on shaft and avoid forcing the impeller onto the shaft.

The impeller should also be removed for storage periods to prevent the blades from taking a permanent set.

If water drips from the weep hole or from the area where the shaft exits the pump, the seal is defective and must be replaced. While the Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) barrier seal provides a first line of defense, prolonged running of the pump with a leaky seal can destroy the ball bearings resulting in catastrophic pump failure and motor shut-down.

For seal replacement, the pump must be removed from the motor and disassembled in order to gain access to the seal area. Lip seals must be pushed out of their press-fitted position and new seals pressed into place using a sealant on the outside of the lip seal housing. Refer to exploded view drawings for seal location and part numbers for ordering purposes.

Because centrifugal pumps are more efficient at higher shaft speeds, pumping of viscous or thick liquids is difficult. It is possible to lose as much as 40% pump performance when attempting to pump liquids of viscosity equal to S.A.E. 30 oil at room temperature.

S.A.E. 30 oil at room temperature has a viscosity of 2000 Saybolt Seconds Universal. More viscous liquids are not recommended for centrifugal pumps.

Heavy liquids can be pumped; however, they demand more horsepower in direct ratio to the weight of water. For example, carbon tetrachloride has a specific gravity of 1.6 which means it is 1.6 times heavier than water and the horsepower required is 1.6 times water horsepower.

    820B Series

This close coupled centrifugal pump uses a mechanical type shaft seal with a Nitrile rubber element. It is suitable for water, oils, and some mild solvents. It is limited to 212o F. fluoroelastomer seals and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) seals are available for severe solvents, difficult chemicals, and elevated temperatures. The impeller is attached directly to the motor shaft. This pump can handle small impurities in the liquid. The flow of a centrifugal pump can be conveniently controlled by a throttling valve in the discharge line without the need for a relief valve. In centrifugal pumps, the horsepower demand will decrease as the pressure increases. Maximum horsepower occurs with a wide open discharge.

  • 82PB Series

    82PB Series

Oberdorfer™ centrifugal pumps have a single rotating metal impeller. Liquid enters at the center and is thrown outward radically by centrifugal force. The impeller is not in contact with other pump parts resulting in quiet, efficient, pumping action. The flow produced is not positive which permits the discharge line to be shut off completely without danger of overloading motors or bursting lines. Consequently a relief valve is not required.

The liquid flow varies directly as the pump speed--the higher the speed the greater the flow.

Silent, efficient, centrifugal pumping is ideal for convenient equipment location in offices, laboratories, public areas, and living quarters. Long trouble-free service life has made centrifugal pumps acceptable for industrial uses or wherever clean or contaminated liquid compatible with bronze is to be transferred or handled.

  • Heliarc Series

    Heliarc Series

Oberdorfer™ has a long history of supplying pumps to the welding machine industry. Ever since the Heliarc welding tech- nology was developed, Oberdorfer™ pumps were used to circulate cooling liquid to the welder’s torch.

Pump and electric motor are usually mounted on top or on the side of the coolant tank. A pressure relief valve built into the pump returns excess liquid directly to the tank rather than to the suction side of the pump, thus avoiding heat build-up in the pump.

Pump models N1000R39 and N1000R-66* are coupled to the electric motor with a flexible coupling. The N95060GEC03 and N95060GFC01 models are close-coupled to a carbonator motor by a circular clamp arrangement, offering a space-saving, compact design alternative. Pump model N95060GE is a retro- fit for Miller Electric Mfg. Co.

The reasons for the wide acceptance of Oberdorfer™ pumps in the welding machine industry are reliability, long serv- ice life, and ease of maintenance. The pumps depicted on this page are being produced in quantities for several welding machine manufacturers in the U.S.A.

Nitrile impellers are available as an option. Flexible blades on the periphery of the impeller provide the pumping action. While the impeller rotates the liquid between the blades is continuously squeezed out into the discharge port by a machined in cam located inside the pump chamber.

For longevity of the pump, we recommend the impeller and seal be replaced under the following guidelines:

The impeller must be replaced if it is worn out or has been damaged by debris or by running the pump dry. Symptoms of a defective impeller are low pumping pressure and low flow. To replace the impeller remove screws and cover. Pull out the impeller with needle nose pliers or two screwdrivers. Be careful not to dent the pumping chamber with these tools. When inserting new impeller, line up key slot in impeller with the key in the shaft. Use oil on shaft and avoid forcing the impeller onto the shaft. The impeller should also be removed for storage periods to prevent the blades from taking a permanent set.

If water drips from the area where the shaft exits the pump, the seal is defective and must be replaced. While the shaft slinger barrier seal provides a first line of defense, prolonged running of the pump with a leaky seal can destroy the ball bearings of the electric motor. For seal replacement, the pump must be removed from the motor and disassembled in order to gain access to the seal area. The Nitrile seal must be pushed out of the press-fitted position and a new lip seal pressed into place, using a sealant on the outside of the lip seal housing. Refer to exploded view drawings for seal location and part numbers for ordering purposes.

Refer to exploded view drawings for seal location and part numbers for ordering purposes.

The carbonator motor mounting uses a circular clamp, similar to a hose clamp, as means of attaching the pump to a specially machined hub on the motor. This concept was first developed for the vending machine industry to pump carbonated beverages in soft drink dispensers. The main advantages are compactness and economy due to the elimination of the adapter casting. The rotary gear pump features an all bronze design and 303 stainless steel shafts with options of non-metallic gears and a variety of shaft seals. The built-in relief valve is available in two options; internal recirculation to suction side or external connection for return line to supply tank.

The pump by-pass is not intended to be a metering or flow control device. Its main purpose is to function as a pressure relief when the desired set point is exceeded, overheating can occur within 5 -10 minutes if the discharge line is completely shut off for extended periods. Reversing rotation reverses the “IN” and “OUT” ports and the location of the by-pass ports have to be reversed. The by-pass valve is factory set at 50 p.s.i. To increase the set point, turn the bypass valve adjusting screw in a clockwise direction.
